Circ Energy

Using food scraps to generate your own renewable energy!
CIRC is the inventor, developer, supplier and seller of a compact biodigester called the BioTransformer. This digester is used to locally ferment vegetable, fruit and food waste (GFE) into energy. The bio-digester converts the GFE into two useful streams, namely biogas and digestate, also known as BioWater.

The BioTransformer is fed daily with the GFE waste from kitchen and restaurant. The input determines the output (biogas and digestate), in the sense that more biogas can be generated from bread and pasta, for example, than from a cucumber. Before proceeding to processing, the BioTransformer weighs and analyses the material. This material then enters the bio-digester's fermentation reactor, where bacteria break down the material, digest it and convert it to gas. At the end of the process, what remains is biogas and a liquid digestate, which can be put to good use as a soil conditioner.

The biogas can be converted into hot (tap) water via a biogas central heating boiler, blended into existing, suitable central heating equipment or converted into electricity via a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system. By using (Co2 neutral) biogas as a renewable source, the use of fossil gas is reduced. And by using the digestate as a soil conditioner, increasingly scarce nutrients are reused (locally). In addition, fewer transport movements for waste disposal are needed.

The BioTransformer is self-learning based on artificial intelligence: it continuously measures and improves its performance. It also shares data with other digesters so that it can compare and improve its performance. Depending on the amount of GFE to be processed, there are different models of digesters in different set-up options. This ranges from 50 - 600 kg of input per day.

Besides manual feed, there are feed options for standard wheelie bins and automatic links to biowaste crushers (e.g. Meiko Green) that can be located in (production) kitchens. The Circ BioTransformer is a clean and easy-to-use waste solution that generates energy for hotels, restaurants, educational institutions, hospitals, care homes and locations such as holiday and entertainment parks. It is the perfect solution for anyone who believes in sustainability and efficiency in places where food is consumed or produced.
