New opportunities for sustainable hotel construction: Dornbracht ReCrafted successfully expanded

The Iserlohn-based tap manufacturer has successfully expanded its new business model Dornbracht ReCrafted. In addition to the offer for private individuals, numerous options are now available for the hotel and project sector. Since February 2023, the company has been taking back its used products, reconditioning them at the Iserlohn factory and then returning them to the cycle. This saves up to 40% of CO2 per reconditioned basin mixer compared to a new product.

Project business with large hotels proves to be particularly sustainable and economical in this context. The cranes removed during modernisation projects offer ideal conditions for overhaul. They are well maintained and the quantities created during dismantling in a short time make efficient logistics possible. In addition, overhauling the same product in larger quantities also simplifies the process steps themselves.

When recruiting for hotel projects, Dornbracht Sales is not only concerned with the installation of new products, but also with the return of used taps. Stefan Gesing, CEO of Dornbracht AG & Co. KG, explains: "After the introduction of ReCrafted, it turned out that our idea is very attractive not only for private individuals, but especially for hotels. We save them waste disposal and at the same time help them improve the environmental balance of their properties."

The first projects have already been realised with partners from the hotel industry. One example is Hotel V in Amsterdam, which offered second-hand cranes from 91 rooms for overhaul. For this, they were carefully dismantled, packed in reusable felt bags and transported to Iserlohn in large, reusable transport crates. After overhaul at Dornbracht's factory, they are again available to the market as ReCrafted faucets.

After being taken in for reconditioning and returned to the market cycle, Dornbracht offers the following options - if replacement products are needed: in addition to supplying new products, products from the existing ReCrafted range are also available for specification as alternatives. With the right planning of the construction process, it is even possible to subsequently reinstall refurbished washbasin taps in the same premises.

"We can only realise our plan together with our hotel partners, who will hopefully provide us with many of our classics for overhaul," he explains.
