In the world of fitness and health, XXL Nutrition is now an established name. With a wide range of high-quality sports nutrition products, the company has built a solid reputation. But what if these products were available not only in sports shops or online, but also in hotels? René van der Zel, founder and owner of XXL Nutrition, shares his views on integrating sports nutrition into the hotel industry.
Although XXL Nutrition is ubiquitous in gyms, supplement shops and even supermarkets, René van der Zel sees a new opportunity: the hotel industry. "Sports nutrition is not just about supporting athletes," says Van der Zel. "It's about promoting a healthy lifestyle for everyone, wherever they are. Healthy eating has long since ceased to be the preserve of athletes alone; it has become a lifestyle."
He added: "Hotels can play a crucial role in offering healthy options to their guests, and sports nutrition would fit in perfectly. Our products are already in supermarkets and we are working on incorporating protein shakes into lattes and cappuccinos: we call them proticchinos. That's a protein shake vanilla with a shot of espresso in it. Super tasty! So these are very popular. We also have more and more beach bars as customers. Many people who work out often also want a shake when they go to the beach for a day."
Van der Zel believes hotels can lower the barrier for guests interested in a healthy lifestyle by making sports nutrition more accessible. This can be done by placing XXL Nutrition products in vending machines in hotel lobbies, making it easy for guests to buy healthy snacks and supplements instead of traditional, unhealthy bars and snacks. "We already have a trial running in some Van der Valk hotels where our ingredients are used," Van der Zel says. "And there is interest from Corendon to offer our meals and supplements both in their hotels and on the planes."
Moreover, Van der Zel suggests that hotel kitchens can prepare meals specifically designed for people with an athletic lifestyle, using high-quality ingredients and nutritional supplements from XXL Nutrition. "Protein-rich products like ours have become increasingly mainstream in recent years. There was even a news report about it the other day. A lady said she didn't think protein products on supermarket shelves were necessary. Then I thought, 'rather worry about all those products with added sugars on the shelves'. Anyone who trains seriously knows that good sports nutrition is indispensable. And more and more people do."
For Van der Zel, integrating sports nutrition into the hotel industry is not only a business opportunity, but also a chance to promote health and wellness. "By partnering with hotels, we can reach a wider and rapidly growing audience and inspire people to make healthy choices even when they are travelling," he says.
With his vision, Van der Zel continues to strive for innovation and growth, both for XXL Nutrition and the wider community of health-conscious individuals. By partnering with the hotel industry, he hopes to pave the way for a future where sports nutrition becomes an integral part of a healthy lifestyle, anywhere in the world. "Nice right if I could play a part in that?"
The story of XXL Nutrition began with René van der Zel's passion. As an avid fitness enthusiast and former personal trainer, he was frustrated by the lack of high-quality supplements that met his needs. Determined to make a difference, René founded XXL Nutrition with the mission to provide honest, effective and reliable sports nutrition. Through his commitment to quality and transparency, XXL Nutrition has become a leading brand. Their products, ranging from protein shakes to pre-workout supplements, are appreciated by professional athletes and recreational athletes alike for their effectiveness and purity.
Last year, in the television programme Dragon's Den, Mama's Meals raised an investment of 1 million euros from investor Pieter Schoen. This capital injection allowed the maker of ready-made meals to enter into an exclusive partnership with XXL Nutrition. Together, the companies market healthy and nutritious meals for athletes and people with a healthy lifestyle under the name XXL Fitmeals.
"The cooperation does not come out of the blue," says Van der Zel. "Our company is the market leader in the Benelux when it comes to nutritional supplements, and we see this cooperation as a natural extension of our offering." The meals can be ordered online and are in more than 1,000 supermarkets.
"This partnership gives us the opportunity to reach an even wider audience and make a significant impact in the healthy food market," concludes Van der Zel. "We look forward to taking our vision of health and nutrition to the next level with XXL Fitmeals."
