Ennismore, the fastest-growing lifestyle and hospitality company, investor Chagall B.V. and White House Development B.V. are delighted to announce the start of construction of Mama Shelter Amsterdam to announce. The Dutch branch is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027. The hotel will combine local Amsterdam charm with Mama's quirky character.
Amid the charming neighbourhoods and once rough industrial areas of Amsterdam North, there is now one of Amsterdam's most vibrant and creative districts. Mama Shelter Amsterdam will embrace the unique DNA of its new neighbourhood. Designed by Mama Shelter's design team, guests can expect lavish interiors, from ceilings full of colourful graffiti to unique ornaments throughout the hotel that reference the local environment. Echoes of Mama's personality can also be found in the 150 guest rooms in two categories, with playful cartoon masks reminding guests not to take life too seriously.
In this urban haven, sharing together and conviviality are the beating heart, where Mama Shelter Amsterdam will create a special atmosphere on a daily basis in its four F&B venues, including an all-day dining restaurant, a restaurant bar, a terrace and a rooftop bar. With homemade food classics to unique cocktail creations, to regular Mama Nights featuring the best DJs and live music, a social hotspot is created at this Mama. For those looking for a more intimate place for meetings, the hotel offers 80 m² of unique meeting and event spaces, including karaoke rooms and fully equipped breakout containers.
The design of the hotel comes from Amsterdam-based architecture firm
Paul de Ruiter Architects, which created a circular and energy-neutral design that is in line with a sustainable future and pays tribute to the building's historic industrial past. The main contractor started work in September 2024, J.P. van Eesteren, the construction of the hotel.
A stone's throw from the city's historic centre, Mama Shelter finds a new home in Amsterdam Noord, just 15 minutes from Amsterdam Central Station and 25 minutes from Schiphol Airport. This quirky part of town is blossoming with avant-garde energy - nondescript shipyards and abandoned industrial sites are now home to some of Noord's best bars and eateries, while culture lovers can indulge in Amsterdam's modern icon, the Eye Film Museum - a futuristic cinema, museum and film archive. At sunset, the A'DAM Lookout offers unparalleled panoramic views of the famous canals, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Cedric Gobilliard, Brand chief operating officer of Mama Shelter at Ennismore, said, "Mama thrives where urban excitement meets warm hospitality. Mama Shelter Amsterdam promises to be an immersive experience in this unique corner of Amsterdam, where local charm merges with Mama's quirky character. We are delighted to partner with White House Development B.V. to bring Mama to the heart of the 'Venice of the North', creating an unforgettable base in the Dutch capital."
Maurice Kortleven From White House Development B.V., said, "We are very happy to work with such a great team. Mama Shelter Amsterdam, like in many other cities worldwide, will become an icon and hotspot for both the neighbourhood and travellers. Architect Paul de Ruiter Architects has done a fantastic job of combining heritage and sustainability, and the hotel will eventually receive BREEAM Excellent certification. Together with our asset manager, European Hotel Capital B.V., we are greatly looking forward to the grand opening!"
Mama Shelter, founded by Serge Trigano and his two sons, Jérémie and Benjamin, is a place to celebrate life to the fullest: the concept is affordable, quirky, popular, bold and sexy. Mama has created a haven for her guests, where, like a mother to her children, she treats travellers as if they were her own family. The first Mama Shelter in Paris-East was followed by hotels in Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux, Los Angeles, Prague, Belgrade, Toulouse, Lille, London, Paris-West, Luxembourg, Rome, Lisbon, La Défense in Paris, Rennes, Dijon and Nice. Future branches are currently planned for Dubai, Casablanca and Cape Town. Mama Shelter Amsterdam joins the existing Ennismore branches in Amsterdam, The Hoxton Amsterdam and The Hoxton Lloyd.
