A Midsummer Night: four hours of eating herring and connecting during longest day of the year
Leonardo Royal Hotel The Hague Promenade will hand out the Netherlands' very first 'herring barrel' during 'The Hague Herring Party' on Thursday 20 June: the longest day of the year. The inspiration for the 'herring barrel' comes from 'Midsommar', the traditional Swedish celebration on the longest day of the year where flowers take centre stage. In addition, the atmosphere is characterised by pastel-coloured clothing and food, and this will also be the case during 'The Hague Herring Party'. Herring, Holland's national delicacy, will be combined with Swedish tradition and with the introduction of the 'herring vessel', the hotel aims to celebrate a sense of togetherness. This underlines the international ties the hotel cherishes. Besides herring, there is much more to taste. The hotel restaurant, LEO'S International Flavors, serves authentic dishes from all over the world. New this year are snacks with strawberries, freshly picked from the strawberry greenhouse. "We are immensely proud to introduce and award a new form of the harinerate during 'The Hague Herring Party' this year," Says Thomas Kortleve, General Manager of Leonardo Royal Hotel The Hague Promenade. "With the Netherlands' very first 'haringvaatje', we not only want to welcome the delicious Hollandse Nieuwe, but rather combine our own herring tradition with the Scandinavian tradition Midsummer where we celebrate the longest day of the year. In addition, the 'herring barrel' symbolises international connection and togetherness, which we cherish as a hotel and restaurant."
This year, Leonardo Royal Hotel Den Haag Promenade is introducing a unique addition to its culinary offering: its own strawberry greenhouse. This greenhouse, carefully constructed on the hotel grounds, will be maintained and used by the chef of the hotel restaurant LEO'S International Flavors. The fresh, home-grown strawberries will be reflected in the Royal Dutch Strawberry dessert. Other dishes on the menu include: Tunnbrod, Gravad Lax and Brochette Hasselback. The first tasting of these new creations will take place during the annual 'The Hague Herring Party', where guests can enjoy the fresh fruit straight from the greenhouse. This initiative highlights Leonardo Royal Hotel The Hague Promenade's commitment to using its own fresh produce to complement their dishes and promote sustainability.
