On November 26, 2024, Madeira will be the setting for the Grand Final of the World Travel Awards (WTA). At this internationally recognised event, often referred to as the 'Oscars of travel,' the most prestigious titles in the tourism industry are awarded. The gala at the luxurious Savoy Palace in Funchal will include the winner of the coveted 'World's Leading Destination 2024' and 'World's Responsible Tourism 2024' award announced.
During this 31st edition of the World Travel Awards, the entire tourism sector will gather on the island of Madeira. Eduardo Jesus, Secretary of Tourism and Culture of Madeira said: "It is a great honour to host the Grand Final of the World Travel Awards. Hosting this event is a unique opportunity to show the world how unique and special a destination Madeira is.'
The World Travel Awards were launched in 1993 to reward excellence within the tourism industry. From top hotels and resorts to airlines and destinations. The awards have become a globally recognised hallmark of quality. Every year, millions of travellers and professionals vote to distinguish the best organisations. Winning an award not only means prestigious recognition, but also contributes to growth in brand awareness and visitor numbers.
About Madeira
Madeira itself has received several awards in recent years, including the title of 'World's Leading Island Destination' and 'Europe's Leading Island Destination' several times. The island is known for its varied and volcanic landscapes. From impressive cliffs, green laurel forests and countless hiking trails. Also Holidaysmadeira.co.uk sees an increase in Dutch tourists to the Portuguese island. Where previously many Dutch people visited Madeira to spend the winter, Madeira has now established itself as a popular destination for active holidays. The mild climate, unique nature and these many hiking trails means Madeira's tourism continues to grow.
