This morning in Berlin, the world-famous Aquadom, a 16-metre-high cylindrical aquarium, burst open. This injured two people and killed some 1,500 fish. Hotel guests had to be taken outside after the explosion. The damage to the hotel is immense and hundreds of emergency workers are at the scene. It is possible that material fatigue was the cause of the explosion; further investigations should reveal this. Berlin's traffic information centre reports that the street where the aquarium is located has been closed as there is a lot of water on the road.
