Professionals in the design sector are always looking for ways to stay ahead. This applies not only to the designs themselves, but also to how they are presented. This is where Design Nation comes in, a b2b event aimed specifically at design professionals working in the contract and project market. Think hotel design, high-end bars and restaurants, but also project development in all its facets. The event will take place at Kortrijk Xpo on 17 and 18 October.
Hannelore Caenepeel, Sr. Exhibition Manager Design Nation: "The first edition of Design Nation was a bold venture. We took a leap into the unknown by introducing a completely new concept and unique scenography. It was clear that there was a need for a high-quality b2b event for design professionals, but whether it would catch on remained to be seen. Fortunately, the event turned out to be a great success, both with visitors and exhibitors. Interest was high, and feedback positive. The event not only provided a platform for networking, but also for discovering the latest trends and innovations in design."
The second edition of Design Nation builds on the success of the first, but also brings a number of significant changes and innovations. One of the most notable developments is the growth in the number of exhibitors, with an increase of almost 70%. This indicates that the demand for an event like Design Nation is high, and that the organisers are responding well to the needs of the industry.
"This year there are plenty of strong new names on the exhibitor list, in addition to returning participants," Hannelore continues. "Details of these can be found on the Design Nation website, where you can get a complete overview of the participating companies. Big names like USM, Pedrali and Collett & Victor are in attendance, underlining the quality and diversity of the offering. Hilde Francq will also present future colour trends, and Fiona Beenkens will share her insights on how design can affect your energy levels, sleep patterns and general well-being. There will also be an engaging panel discussion between Axelle Vertommen and Dries Otten on the importance of a solid design plan, and Dutch designer Judith van Vliet will talk about the power of colour in design."
Another highlight of the fair is the presentation of the 'Designer of the Year' award, an honour given live during Design Nation. The winner is then interviewed about his or her vision, ambitions and path to success. This makes for an inspiring end to the fair day, where visitors can learn first-hand from leading figures in the design world.
Sustainability is a theme that can no longer be ignored in the design world, and it also plays an important role at Design Nation. Each participating brand is awarded one or more labels by the expert jury. These labels range from "Look & Feel" and "Plug & Play" to "Authenticity" and "Iconic". The "Future Proof" label is awarded specifically to companies that value sustainability and eco-design. This highlights Design Nation's commitment to being a platform where innovation and responsibility go hand in hand.
"Although Design Nation is still a relatively young event, its ambitions are high. After this edition, we hope to definitively establish ourselves as a solid biennial that captivates every type of design professional. But of course we are not sitting still; work is ongoing to improve and expand the event, with a strong focus on quality and relevance," Caenepeel concludes. ν
