The trade fair for professionals in the hospitality industry, Horecava, will take place from 8 to 11 January at RAI Amsterdam. The theme of this edition will include professionalisation. Rising prices, staff shortages, increasing competition and customer expectations make a professional approach a necessity for hospitality businesses. While hospitality remains paramount, issues such as scaling-up and automation increasingly demand attention. During Horecava, these important topics are discussed in detail. In both theme pavilions, during a theatre programme and in the trendLAB, hospitality professionals will gain plenty of knowledge and inspiration.

Catering is and remains a profession

Despite all the innovations and automation possibilities, hospitality remains a real profession. A profession bursting with passionate entrepreneurs. Horecava is the annual fair for professionals in eating, drinking and sleeping out. This year, the only trade fair attended by the entire hospitality industry in the Netherlands is dedicated to professionalisation. The programme of Horecava 2024 is varied. Besides networking opportunities, it includes a trendLAB, a theatre programme and various competitions.

TrendLAB

The hospitality industry is quite subject to trends. Moreover, in this dynamic industry, the emerging influence of the younger generation not only determines the trends, but also the course of the future. Theatre programme

Horecava Innovation Award

For the 23rd time, the Innovation Award and Sustainability Award will be presented at the fair. This will take place during the official opening on 8 January. There are nominees in various categories. Innovative products, new tastes, innovative interior concepts and useful digital applications will be honoured with an award. Some of the nominations include: Vegan Doner Dudes (100% plant-based). Taste Chef (innovative sourcing with less food waste as a goal), The Good Roll (fair trade bamboo toilet paper) and The Eggcheff Scrambled (a robot that makes perfect scrambled eggs).

The following hospitality competitions will take place at Horecava:

  • The NK Cooking: During the HANOS Golden Chefs' Cap, Young Chefs' Cap and Apprentice-Master you will see, smell and experience how (star) chefs and their brigades create spectacular dishes. Working from a black box, which contains (obligatory) ingredients for each course, they show you what is possible with beautiful products, good teamwork and knowledge. A spectacle not to be missed!
  • The tastiest competitions: including the NK tastiest bun, NK tastiest burger, NK Pizza baking and Lekker Anders (intended for catering workers with a work limitation). Creativity and perfection are at the heart of these competitions.
  • NK Koffie: the tastiest coffee, finest presentations and amazing latte art. Includes the Dutch Barista Championship, which determines which Dutch entry will be sent to the Barista World Cup.
  • NK Biertappen: beer tapping is a profession and during this competition seasoned beer tappers compete against each other. The winner will be named Best Beer Tapper of the Netherlands.

For over 65 years, Horecava has been the trade fair for professionals in the world of eating, drinking and sleeping outdoors. The largest trade fair for the hospitality industry in the Netherlands attracts tens of thousands of visitors every edition.
