At the foot of the Alpine peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, between the lakes of Thun and Brienz, lies the traditional Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa. Combining the spirit of the late 19th century with modern interior design, the fashionable hotel is one of the most exclusive addresses in Switzerland. Today, Madison by Dornbracht provides sensuality and opulence in the bathrooms.
Private house, guest house, grand hotel: the Victoria Jungfrau looks back on an eventful history of more than 150 years. In 1856, a young businessman bought the former doctor's house, picturesquely situated on Interlaken's high-tree-lined Höheweg. Within a few years, renowned architects Friedrich Studer and Horace Edouard Davinet transformed the building into a magnificent retreat for the wealthy of the time. At the turn of the century, a new central building with a dome finally connected the Victoria to the neighbouring Hotel Jungfrau - transforming the expansive grand hotel into a Swiss icon of the belle époque. Kings and scholars, writers and artists from all over the world, including Marc Twain and the emperor of Brazil, stayed here.
The charm of that era can still be felt throughout the hotel: in the golden mirrors, stucco-adorned rooms and sparkling crystal chandeliers. Today, this historical heritage is combined with contemporary design elements. The successful combination of tradition and modern design is reflected in the luxurious spa, the three restaurants and two bars and in the 216 rooms and suites. These are spacious and comfortable: light-flooded rooms and light parquet floors are complemented here by classically stylish furniture, fine silk fabrics and a harmonious colour palette. Carpets with abstract colour patterns constantly create surprising contrasts.
The bathrooms are similarly designed: white marble with light grey veins defines the style here. It covers the walls and floors in large tiles and is also used on the washbasins. Since the extensive renovation between 2021 and 2023, Madison by Dornbracht has been installed in all bathrooms. The nostalgic and elegant tap seems to have been made for this ambience: with its design language, it evokes memories of the bathing culture of yesteryear, while the finish in Chrome fits harmoniously into the whole. Like the Victoria-Jungfrau itself, Madison combines the splendour of the past with a sense of well-being and contemporary luxury.
