The iconic main building of Fort Isabella, the renovated former barracks site on the outskirts of 's-Hertogenbosch, will be used as a hotel. In the coming months, the national monument will be transformed into a 30-room boutique lifestyle hotel. Hotel Ryder is expected to open its doors in late 2023.
The location combines the best of both worlds; natural tranquillity and a bustling city have found each other here. Fort Isabella is located in Vughton the edge of the Burgundian city centre of 's-Hertogenbosch. Surrounded by nature and hiking areas Het Bossche broek and the Vughtse Hei, you are at walking distance from the city centre of 's-Hertogenbosch.
Entrepreneur Marloes van de Wiel (34) has extensive experience as a general manager in the hotel industry and is eager to flesh out a hotel of his own. "I came into contact with Tjeerd Saatrube of the Isabella Group via via. In our conversations, it soon became clear that we share the same vision about this place and the function of a hotel in it, both for the neighbourhood and the city. For me, it is a dream come true."
Tjeerd Saatrube on the collaboration: "Fort Isabella brings together living, working, education and recreation on a historic site. The presence of a hotel on the site is a great addition to the recreation pillar and has been an important wish from the beginning. We cannot wait until Hotel Ryder opens its doors and we can welcome even more visitors to our hospitable outer city.''
Marloes continues: "Many hotels have a standard lobby, standardised rooms and a reception that is more of a hurdle than a warm welcome for guests. Hotel Ryder takes a different approach. With us, you enter a living room, a living room combined with a bar where you can do whatever you like. This immediately gives a feeling of coming home, because there are corners everywhere to work, have a drink, relax or catch up. Apart from hotel guests, locals are also welcome here. Moreover, we have a meeting room that you can reserve with a group."
The national monument will be completely sustainably renovated. Like the other buildings on Fort Isabella, it will run completely gas-free and generate energy via a heat pump and 1,800 solar panels on the grounds. The building thus retains classic allure while meeting today's sustainability and comfort requirements.
The growing appeal of 's-Hertogenbosch brings weekend guests and day-trippers, while active holidaymakers can use Hotel Ryder as a base from which to explore the surrounding area. Bicycles can be rented at the hotel. For local businesses, there are facilities for meetings or drinks, and for (international) business travellers, Hotel Ryder is a temporary home away from home.
To create an experience that is right down to the last detail, Hotel Ryder has engaged parties that also set the bar high: Advertising agency the Code is responsible for branding and marketing, interior design is in the hands of King Kongs (Vigor, Ron Gastrobar, Mood, LOFF). Cooperation with local entrepreneurs and suppliers is also sought wherever possible.
From 1922 to May 1940, The Wielryders Regiment was stationed at Isabella Barracks. At the outbreak of World War II, this regiment consisted of 5190 men - on bicycles. They fought bravely against the German invasion, but at a high price. The Ryder name is a tribute to the brave men who fought for our freedom. The freedom the hotel is so committed to.
