An overview of special places where sitting outside is a treat

More than 25,000 outlets within the food and drink segment in the Netherlands have an outdoor terrace. And the good news, these are getting more and more! Now the sun is still shining, but now that spring has begun, it probably won't be long before it arrives. And sometimes it doesn't matter whether the sun is shining or not. We just like sitting outside, people-watching, enjoying the view or watching boats go by, it all appeals to us. That is why in this terrace special we have set out the most diverse terraces and corresponding experiences. Here's to a great terrace season!

The Head of East 

 Enjoy the waterfront at Kop van Oost in Amsterdam East. A beautifully decorated restaurant with a terrace right by the water, where you sit in the sun all day. The view of the only windmill in the centre of Amsterdam makes the hustle and bustle of the city seem very far away. Especially on a sunny day, local residents and visitors know how to find the terrace. Join us for drinks, a relaxed lunch or a sumptuous dinner. Kita

A pearl by the water, that is Kita in Hendrik Ido Ambacht. The restaurant's name is even based on the river Noord that flows past the terrace. In fact, Kita is the Japanese translation for 'North'. A visit to Kita is a real experience. Not only does this restaurant have a stunning interior with 'wow factor', the terrace impresses just as much. Here, you leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind you completely and settle down on a sun-drenched terrace. The menu features mainly international dishes inspired by Japanese cuisine. With an extensive choice of fine wines and cocktails, it is also the ideal place for a drink. Kita was awarded a prestigious Entree Award in the 'Best New Dine & Drink Concept' category at the end of last year. A place you really must have been.

Slope 7

Located on an old slipway of Damen Shiprepair, you will find Helling 7, an extraordinary restaurant with a large terrace in Amsterdam Noord. The restaurant has used old materials from former (ship)yards for its industrial interior. The place exudes craftsmanship, in the building, but also by cooking on wood fire, special, intense dishes are delivered. Helling 7 is also an excellent place for drinks. Especially on a beautiful spring or summer day, the unique terrace quickly fills up. The sunset over the IJ provides a breathtaking view of the bustling shipyard the restaurant is adjacent to.

Hotel Flora Batava

From April, Flora Batava will again open its terraces at the country estate on the river Vecht. This year with a new and sunny lounge terrace on the side of the monumental villa, serving wine and bites. Guests wishing to dine elaborately are welcome to settle down at the accompanying Restaurant Bloei for a sumptuous lunch, drinks or delicious dinner. The location is enchanting, situated right on the water. The various terraces at the monumental villa and the teahouse also have a stunning location with views of the Vecht, the pond and flowering garden in spring.

Le Barrage

Le Barrage is located in a stately building with a rich history in Alblasserdam. What is not immediately visible from the outside is the back of the building. Le Barrage is located on a dam overlooking the Alblas river, where you can watch the boats go by from the terrace. It is a lovely place to stay until late in the evening, with heaters that turn on when the temperature drops. Moreover, the conservatory is a good place to take a seat if the weather turns bad. Although the restaurant looks stately, the décor is trendy. That modern twist is also reflected in the menu, with a particular focus on excellent sushi and sashimi. It's still hard to choose from the extensive menu and wine selection. Discover for yourself this hidden gem under the smoke of Rotterdam.

Vane Skybar Eindhoven NH Collection Eindhoven Centre

VANE Skybar, in the NH Collection Eindhoven Centre literally towers high above Eindhoven. It is the cocktail bar of the city of lights with breathtaking views over Eindhoven's skyline. In the heart of Rotterdam, on the Meent, you will find the sunniest terrace in town. At Bar Pepito, you imagine yourself completely in Mediterranean spheres. Order a jug of sangria and combine the most delicious small dishes from the menu, which is full of Portuguese and Spanish snacks. You can sit here for hours, letting the hustle and bustle of the city pass you by. By the way, the sangria is made according to an old-fashioned good recipe with cava, red wine or rosé. The staff likes to pamper guests, combining down-to-earth Rotterdam hospitality with that of southern European countries. The approachable restaurant and grand café Willaerts in Papendrecht is a household name in the Drechtsteden and has a lovely terrace open all year round. Willaerts is, as one of the few catering establishments, even accessible by water bus. From the terrace you have a phenomenal view over the Three Rivers Point, where there is always something happening. The menu offers a wide choice of excellent dishes: from salads and bowls to shared dining and choices especially for children. Umami by Han Eindhoven

The cosy Kleine Berg in Eindhoven is home to Umami by Han. Eating at Umami by Han is a real experience that stimulates your senses. In addition to an insane wine list, Umami has a 'tea pairing' to accompany its menus, specially curated by tea sommeliers. A unique tea experience that you really must try. The terrace is the perfect place for a cocktail in the sun, as there is no shortage of cocktail choices either. Bunk Amsterdam
