Inspire Brands Group, the parent company of the Dunkin' brand, is delighted that VDVI has chosen to take the iconic brand to the next level. The current management team, led by Roberto Fava, will continue to run the business where there will be close collaboration with VDVI's management team in many areas.
By acquiring Dunkin', VDVI realises an important aspect of their mission; a further total gastronomic experience: from extensive dining in the restaurants, to good on-the-go service near their hotels that are also increasingly used as traveller hubs.
VDVI also sees the strategic acquisition as complementing their current portfolio of not only hotels, but also other food concepts such as Vapiano, acquired in 2020. The potential for growth of the popular Dunkin' brand is huge and fits with Van der Valk Hotels' expansion strategy in the Benelux. The fact that Dunkin' has a younger target group is also attractive to Van der Valk - they are the hotel guest of the future.
Currently, Dunkin' has 53 outlets in the Netherlands and 23 in Belgium, all managed in-house. As the majority shareholder, VDVI plans to expand with 60 more branches over the next five years, both in, next to, near or outside its own hotels.
VDVI will strengthen Dunkin''s Dutch and Belgian expansion strategy by focusing on strategic pillars such as the Dunkin' Hot, Cold and Frozen Drinks, the home-made Premium Donuts, the extensive custom-made range and variants such as the steamed and vegan donuts, responding to the growing demand for plant-based products.
" Let's also certainly not forget that we are primarily a coffee company, the second largest in the world," said Roberto Fava. "A product that naturally fits seamlessly with Van der Valk's guests and its entire service offering."
Gert van der Valk, director VDVI adds: "To position Dunkin' even more firmly in the market, we are also looking strongly at the current synergy we already have with various partners and our own operations. Being able to share purchasing and sales channels, logistics, IT solutions, guest experience, employee training and deployment - we see a lot of benefits in this acquisition."
In the coming years, Dunkin' will become an increasingly common hotspot for the guest with a tasty appetite. From pop-up container outlets at petrol stations to kiosks at Van der Valk Hotels. From to-go' shops in strategic locations to larger coffee and doughnut shops with 60 to 100 seats. A broadening of gourmet services that will feel right at home in Van der Valk's nest.
