A curtain greatly determines the atmosphere of a room. There are many different types of curtains, all creating a different experience. This is not surprising when you consider that every interior has its own style and every room therefore requires a different approach.

The striking factory building of Weverij de Ploeg in Bergeijk was designed by Gerrit Rietveld and commissioned in 1958. De Ploeg was founded in 1923 as a cooperative weaving mill for household textiles. Since the 1920s, De Ploeg has been known as a supplier of curtain and upholstery fabrics. In the 1950s, the company became one of the pioneers of the 'Good Living' movement. De Ploeg fabrics became widely known among the Dutch public and became an international concept.

"Goed Wonen set itself the goal of improving the living environment. De Ploeg originated from the idealistic idea that every person should be able to live and work comfortably," explains Hayo Stegehuis, Manager at De Ploeg. "We stand for artisanal, high-quality curtain and upholstery fabrics. The collections of woven and printed fabrics are fully coordinated," Stegehuis continues. "Aesthetics, functionality, comfort and sustainability go hand in hand and form our core business. De Ploeg is officially ISO 14001 certified and increasingly uses yarns made from recycled materials. Needless to say, this means a good boost to the desire to become more sustainable as well."

Within the company, Stegehuis sees growing demand from the business market for hotel furnishings, as De Ploeg supplies high-quality curtains that meet requirements in terms of washability, flame retardancy, acoustics and blackout and insulation properties.

"A hotel that attracts new customers and keeps them coming back will need to invest more in design and design. Hotel guests are looking for original experiences, comfort, relaxation and more or less indulgence."

Rosewood Munich, for example, is a highly prestigious project that De Ploeg has fitted with curtains throughout. The hotel will open its doors in early 2023. "This is a project we are very proud of. After all, curtains are the first sight in a hotel. A hotel room window always attracts a lot of attention. Every hotel guest often walks to the window first for the view from the room. In my opinion, the importance of good window coverings is still sometimes underestimated. Compared to blinds and shades, for example, curtains have the advantage that they are flexible: they can be used closed or open and contribute directly to atmosphere and acoustics." If you don't handle this properly, it will have a negative impact on your guests' experience.
