Never bothered by slamming doors again

On the edge of Amsterdam's Vondelpark and a stone's throw from Leidseplein, lies the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel. This five-star hotel with eleven floors and almost 400 rooms has comfort at its heart. Partly for this reason, the hotel chose GEZE TS 5000 SoftClose door closers. With this door closer, hard slamming of doors under all circumstances is a thing of the past.

Despite the etiquette in practically all hotels that guests are supposed to be as quiet as possible between 10pm and 8am, there is no escaping it: the noise of slamming room doors. The Amsterdam Marriott Hotel has decided to do something about it. After extensive tests and several trial installations, this five-star hotel chose the TS 5000 SoftClose door closers from GEZE. "With us, the quality of our guests' stay is always number one," says Richard Geukens, Chief Engineer Amsterdam Marriott Hotel. "Whether it's guests leaving their rooms early in the morning or people returning from the city late in the evening or at night, we want to minimise nuisance from noise in the corridor and slamming doors. After several tests, we chose the TS 5000 SoftClose from GEZE. The decisive factor for us was that the room doors always close in a controlled manner, even if our guests have opened the windows in the tilted position, for example. Without slamming shut. In this way, we reduce noise pollution and can guarantee our guests a stay of the highest quality."

With the example of the open windows, Geukens immediately points out the most important advantage of the TS 5000 SoftClose. This door closer comes into its own in rooms with varying pressure conditions, e.g. due to wind, suction or draught. Thanks to the SoftClose mechanism, the door closes at the base like any closer. This process is slowed down in a controlled manner at the end, so that the doors fall quietly into the lock and do not slam shut under any circumstances. At the same time, the dranger maintains sufficient speed and end strike to fall securely into the lock.

The TS 5000 SoftClose is suitable for fire and smoke protection doors with a width of up to 1,400 mm. The door carrier has a steplessly adjustable closing force of EN 2-6. The closing speed of the door and the end strike function - the speed at which the door falls into the lock - can be set easily and quickly. The integrated opening damping ensures that forcefully opened doors are slowed down.

Based on ambient conditions, all functionalities can be set easily and quickly from the front of the closer. Moreover, the door can be accelerated or decelerated during the final moments of closing. "This is incredibly convenient," confirms Geukens. "Because conditions differ on each floor and even per room, we can easily make small nuances in the settings. This way, each door closes exactly the way we want it to."

The TS 5000 SoftClose is available as standard in silver and white (RAL 9016) and can be made in any RAL colour on request. This allows the door closer to blend seamlessly into any interior.
